FAQs About Family Law

This site is provided as a public service by the ABA Section of Family Law. Nothing in this site should be construed as legal information, legal advice or legal representation. Divorce laws vary from state to state. Our answers reflect the laws applied in most states. We make no warranties to the accuracy of information contained herein. We assume no responsibility for any information, advice or services provided by any site that is linked from this site. You may also wish to visit our Family Law in the 50 States Tables for more specific information.

Office Hours:

Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays. We are closed for lunch between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m.

Initial Consultations:

In order to provide you with meaningful advice, an office conference is generally necessary. We charge an initial consultation fee for this office visit with Jon Rosenberg, at his hourly rate of $375; a minimum charge of $250 for that visit is required.

There is no charge for your initial contact with our office, by phone, or e-mail communication. No legal advice is given at that time.

What Should I Bring To My Consultation?

If you have been served or mailed any documents or letters which relate to the matters you want to discuss, please bring copies of those documents. If this is a post-dissolution matter, or modification of any court order, including but not limited to a Final Judgment, a Marital Settlement Agreement, or the like, bring copies with you.  If you retain our services, we will likely require further information and documentation; we will discuss those items with you, in detail, as appropriate to your particular case.

Do not facsimile any documents to our office prior to your consultation, unless our office has instructed you to do so.  Again, please bring copies; we cannot be responsible for your original paperwork.

Out-of-State Consultations:

If you reside outside of Florida, or in another county which is not in the Central Florida area, we would be pleased to provide a scheduled consultation via telephone.  The initial consultation fee applies, and payment shall be in the form of a credit card, provided prior to your consultation.

How Much Is Your Retainter?

A retainer fee will be quoted at the time of your consultation, after discussing your legal issues.  The retainer fee will take into account the anticipated time necessary for your case, including the complexity of your case, and other related factors which will be discussed at the time of your consultation.  If you decide to proceed with your case and retain my services, the consultation fee will be part of the retainer. Please be advised that “costs” related to a case are separate from retainer fees, and depend upon your individual case, such as court filing fees, and the like. If you have questions regarding the various costs that may be necessary for your particular case, this can also be discussed at the time of your consultation.

Forms Of Payment:

We accept cash, checks, cashier’s checks, money orders, Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and American Express.

Payment via credit cards for costs associated with your case, are generally not accepted by our office.  Please contact us if you have any questions in this regard, or at the time of your initial consultation.
